Visual Timetable ---------------- Welcome to Visual Timetable. This program allows you to design and print timetables using a selection of supplied images or any you wish to import. Buttons ------- The program is very easy to use. The buttons along the top are: Save - this saves the current timetable with a name of your choosing. Load - this button allows to load a previously saved timetable back in to the program. Print - prints the current timetable to the currently selected default printer. New - this clears all timetable content and starts again. There are four layout buttons, each with a variety of clocks and days - you can choose whichever you'd like to use. Import - this button allows you to find and use any images you may have stored on your computer - see the notes below for more information. Quit - stops the program and returns to the desktop. Using the program ----------------- Along the bottom of the screen is the image bank - you can scroll this with the arrow buttons, and select and drag any images on to the blue areas of the timetable. If wish to change an image, drag a new one over the top, and to delete an image, drag it to the bin in the bottom right of the screen. When you drag an image to a timetable, its name will appear underneath. You can click and edit this name if you wish. The clocks can be changed using the up-and-down arrows underneath - this allows you to set the time of each lesson or activity. The third layout screen has the day name along the top - if you click on this, you can change it to a different day. You can also edit the day name should you wish. Importing images ---------------- You can import any pictures you have available on your computer or network - a variety of common picture formats are supported. The import button can be disabled from the folder screen described below, should you not wish to restrict users to pictures of your choosing. Imported images will be copied into the 'imported' folder, unless this is changed from the folder screen - see below. Once imported, pictures can removed from the image bank in one of two ways. The first way is to hold down the key and drag an image from the image bank into the bin - this will only work for imported images, not those supplied. To delete all the imported images, use the button on the folder screen described below. Folders and picture locations ----------------------------- If you are using the program on a network or shared computer, you can change the folders used to store images and saved work. Hold down the key and press to go to the folders screen. From here you can change the folders the program will use. The program must be in a writable folder for these options to be successfully saved. Saved timetables store the file path to the pictures used. If you change the locations or names of folders, or run from a different computer across a network, you may find images cannot be reloaded. If you have changed the program folder settings, delete FOLDERS.INI in the program folder to return to the defaults. IMPORTANT NOTES --------------- When you use the folder-screen button to delete all of the imported pictures, the configured folder is cleared. If you have changed this folder from the default one, make very sure you are happy to delete all of the pictures in the configured folder. When you first start the program, or change a folder, the program will search the specified folders for images, then search all the folder within this for images. If you have a large amount of folders, or set the image folder to be a folder with lots of sub-folders (for example your 'My Pictures' folder, or a whole drive such as 'C:') this search may take a long time. ------------------------------------------------------ Designed by Bob Black with the UK Education Consortium Programming by Kevin Wittamore Graphics by Liz Elsby Special thanks to Carol Allen and Trish Davidson Copywrite Down's Syndrome Association 2007 Freely available for educational purposes.
